Twenty-five young people involved in the wool industry right across the country will gather in Clare, South Australia for the next running Australian Wool Innovation Breeding Leadership course.
AWI acting CEO John Roberts says this is all about fostering the next generation of wool industry leaders.
“The Australian wool industry has a bright future and we need to continue to attract smart and enthusiastic young people to it.
I am impressed by the high quality of participants representing all facets of the wool industry and AWI is looking forward to boosting their industry involvement via this valuable program.”
Shannon Donoghue from Naracoorte, SA will be one of the 25 participants.
Shannon said she is most looking forward to “the opportunity to learn more about myself and develop my skills in understanding other people as this knowledge will help me become a better trainer and create change in the industry”. Shannon is a wool handler trainer and mentor.
Funded by AWI, and facilitated by Pinion Advisory, Breeding Leadership aims to empower young people involved in the wool industry to step into leadership roles within their community.
The week covers a range of topics including strategy (understanding your business and industry), understanding yourself (personality typing), working in teams (accountability, communicating expectations, decision making) and the future (entrepreneurship, innovation and managing change). There is also a full day bus tour to allow participants the opportunity to visit local leaders in a range of industries.
Breeding Leadership is a flagship investment under AWI’s Leadership and Capacity Building area.
